Police arrest man who was on the run since 30 years

Mangaluru: The ‘My Beat, My Pride’ initiaitve of Mangaluru city police has helped the authorities nab a person who has been evading the law for the past three decades, here on Thursday.
Shekabba, 50, a resident of Kinya village under Ullal police station limits, was arrested.

According to P S Harsha, city police commissioner, Shekabba was booked in the Ullal police station under Indian Penal Code sections 341, 324 and 34 in 1989. He had assaulted Fakir Beary along with another person, Mohammed. However, he never attended any court proceeding despite several warrants being issued against him, and was absconding since then. The final warrant was issued against him in 2004.
The police, who started investigating the case, learnt that Shekabba, who believed that the case against him might have been quashed, and that the police were not looking out for him, after working in several places, had finally settled in Kinya. The area beat police, who collected information with the help from locals under the My Beat My Pride initiative, helped in learning about his status, which led to his arrest. He was produced before the court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
