Tamil Nadu schoolteachers likely to get free laptops

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government is planning to give free laptops to more than 2.5 lakh teachers working in government and government-aided schools.
"The government is planning to issue laptops to connect all teachers. An announcement will be made after consulting the chief minister," school education minister K A Sengottaiyan said while speaking at a Teachers’ Day function here on Thursday.
Presently, the school education department is distributing free laptops to postgraduate teachers to enable them to teach Class XI and Class XII students using online resources.
"The state government will replace 90,000 blackboards with smart boards this year," the minister said.

He said the school education department would strengthen its vocational education programme to develop students into professionals.
During the function, 377 teachers received Dr Radhakrishnan award for the best teachers. The award carries Rs 10,000, a silver medal and a certificate.
