University of Hyderabad reportedly figures among the five universities recognised as Institutions of Eminence (IoE) by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
The other four institutions are IIT Madras, Banaras Hindu University, IIT Kharagpur and University of Delhi. Five private universities too were given the tag and they are Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Vellore Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Odisha, and Bharti Institute, Mohali.
The recognition of IoE is to ensure that these institutes are supported to figure in the top 500 world universities in the next one decade and later in the top 100. The institutes recognised as IoE will get a financial assistance up to ₹1,000 crore over the next five years to improve teaching and research facilities.
As part of the IoE status, the institutes will be allowed to admit foreign students and recruit foreign faculty to give the world class feel.
