In the wake of stiff fines imposed on errant traffic law violators, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said the government has no desire to levy heavy challan on the common man but the attempt is to make everyone follow rules. "The government does not desire to raise the limits of the fine. The issue is that a time should come that no one gets penalised and everyone follows the rules," he said on being asked about the heavy fines being levied on traffic rules violators. "Around 5 lakh accidents occur in the country every year. 65 per cent of deaths occur at the age between 18 and 35. Shouldn't people life be saved? There should be respect and fear for the law," he added.
