The Government Railway Police (GRP), Coimbatore, booked a 21-year-old student from Kerala on the charges of molesting his classmate on train and bus during an industrial visit to Mangaluru.
The accused has been identified as a third year under graduate student from a private college in the city.
The police said that the accused and the victim were among 42 students who had gone on an industrial visit to Mangaluru with two teachers on August 29. As per the complaint lodged by the girl, the accused attempted to molest her on moving train en route to Mangaluru on August 29 morning.
Though the girl issued him warning, the accused misbehaved with the girl while travelling on a bus from Mangaluru to Murudeshwar on the night of August 29.
The petition said that the accused repeated the act again on train while travelling back to Coimbatore on Tuesday. After the girl complained about the student’s misbehaviour, the train ticket examiner ousted him from the train at Shoranur railway station. The girl lodged a complaint with the GRP, Coimbatore, when she arrived the city.
The accused was booked under Section 354 A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment) of the IPC and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act. The police said that efforts are on to trace the accused.
