The 300th issue of “Electronics for You” a Hindi magazine was published here on Monday. It was published by AISECT’s Electronics, Computer Science and New Technology, was released on Monday at the Saranda Auditorium of Rabindranath Tagore University. With this, the magazine has also completed its 30 years. Eminent science communicators and writers took part in the special event organized on the occasion.
The program was presided over by the Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University and Santosh Choubey, Chief Editor of Electronics for You magazine Manoj Pateria, Director, CSIRNISCAIR Delhi, was present as the Chief Guest.
At the same time, as the guest of honor, former Chief Secretary, M.P. Rajan Sharadchandra Behar, former Director of Science Prasar Anuj Sinha, Senior Science Writer Devendra Mewari, Manish Mohan Gore, Editor for Electronics for You, Vinita Chabe, Director of ICECT Group Siddharth Chaturvedi and Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. A. K. Gwal were present.
The first season of the programme started with Deep Prajavalavan. The welcome statement was given by ICECT Group Director Siddharth Chaturvedi and during this, while giving introduction to ICECT, he gave information about various works being done by the institute. He informed that iSECT is working on social entrepreneurship and skill development. Manoj Pateria, Director of CSIR-NISCAIR Delhi, Keynote Speaker said that there are many kinds of confusions in the society about science, these can be done by electronics like magazines for you.
Lack of science communication also hinders development. Therefore, it is science social responsibility to make people accessible to science. Presidential address of the programme was given by Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University and Santosh Choubey, Chief Editor of Electronics magazine for you. He said that when Electronics was starting the magazine for you in 1987-88, people used to say who would read the magazine on science.
He further spoke of developing scientific outlook among the people. Also said that for better development, we must also adopt our traditional knowledge. He told that before the British came to India, India had a share of 24 percent in the world economy. This achievement cannot be possible without science. So let us adopt the good things of our traditional knowledge and move ahead by leaving the bad.
After this, Manish Mohan Gore, a scientist and science writer in Vigyan Prasar, in his statement, gave some basic objectives of science dissemination, which include sharing of technology, removing superstition, developing scientific outlook in public mind, skill development in children and youth, women, Giving scientific information to farmers, tribals.
He further said that electronics are doing good work for you to fulfill these objectives. Senior science writer Devendra Mewari said in his proclamation that very few people know that Rabindranath Tagore wrote his first article in 1874 on the subject of science called “Science of the fauna at home”.
Apart from this, he also edited five journals in which science was also a part of him in one way or the other. Anuj Sinha, former director of science promotion, described the 300th issue of the journal Electronics for You as a milestone in his statement. He said that very few such magazines could run. In such a situation, the success of electronics is a big achievement for you.
He also talked about obstacles in the progress of science. He said that practical needs to be further promoted in schools. M.P. Former Chief Secretary of Government Sharad Chandra Behar said that electronics has been published for you for 30 years. Therefore, it is not just a magazine but it has a history of 30 years. This magazine will tell future generations what today’s generation used to think about science.
He also encouraged people to develop scientific temper in all disciplines. In the programme, AISECT 2019 CV Raman Vigyan Sanchar Samman was awarded to senior science communicators Devendra Mewari and Sarika Gharu.
In the second session of the program, a discussion was organized on the topic of Science Writing – Future Prospects in which Devendra Mewari, Dr. Manoj Pateria, Dr. KK Mishra, Santosh Chabe, Anuj Sinha, Dr. Shashank Dwivedi were present.
The contribution of women in science writing and science poems being published in electronics for you was discussed. This was followed by the Vigyan Geet film and ISRO’s Space Programme film. The results of the science fiction competition were announced and the winners were awarded on the occasion, along with members of the Board of Electronics Editor, Ms. Pushpa Asiwal, Mohan Sagoria, Ravindra Jain and Manish Shrivastava were honored with mementoes. In the program, the University Registrar, Dr. Vijay Singh, a national level science writer and a large number of students were present. Successful operation of the program Sangeeta Johri and Vinay Upadhyay did it.
