The police force should be able to change societal attitude towards women, children and transgenders, Health and Social Justice Minister, K. K. Shylaja has said.

Inaugurating the gender awareness and sensitisation training programme for police personnel, “Bodhyam”, organised jointly by the Home Department and the State Women’s Development Corporation here on Wednesday, Ms. Shylaja said that at a time when crime against women and children was on the rise, the police force should take the lead in sensitising society about gender.

Though the State police force was doing a great job as a people-friendly force, the police needed to be more sensitive. They needed to be more civil and sympathetic to women coming to police stations with complaints, she said.

Special Secretary (Social Justice), Biju Prabhakar, presided over the function. ADGP, B. Sandhya, KSWDC chairperson, K. S. Saleekha, Principal, Police Training College, A. Vijayan, Member, State Planning Board, Mridul Eapen among others, spoke.
