CHANDIGARH: The UT police have arrested a 65-year-old maternal grandfather for allegedly sexually harassing his 14-year-old granddaughter from Sector 25 on Wednesday. The accused would be produced in a local court on Thursday.
The incident came to light after the girl narrated her ordeal to her class teacher in her school on Wednesday. School authorities informed the Childline officials for the counselling of girl in school and later a case was registered at Sector 11 police station.
As per the information, the complainant teacher said she was noticing the girl for last few days as there were visible changes in her behaviour. When the teacher interacted with the minor, she opened up. She said that her parents had died around 5 years ago and since then, she and her younger sister, had been living with their maternal grandparents.
She alleged that her grandfather had been molesting her ever since her parents' death, and now he has started doing the same with her sister also. After this, the class teacher informed the school's principal about the incident and they called up Childline and the police.
Police recorded the statement of girl before the judicial magistrate under the Section 164 of Cr.PC and registered a case against her grandfather under the relevant sections of the IPC and the
Pocso Act. The police told that both sisters have been shifted to a shelter home.
