FALL RIVER — A city man was arrested on a drug distribution charge after police seized suspected heroin and cash from his Palmer Street apartment, according to court documents.

Police armed with a warrant to search Joshua Fournier’s apartment at 193 Palmer St. entered his residence about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and saw the 34-year-old standing over the kitchen trash barrel while a woman sat on a couch with her 1-year-old child, according to a police report prepared by Detective Gary Barboza on file at District Court.

Asked whether there were guns or narcotics in the apartment, Fournier allegedly disclosed that he had over two-dozen glassine baggies that contained heroin in his pants pockets, the report states.

Police allege Fournier showed an officer another 85 baggies of heroin he placed in the trash can and 53 baggies of heroin in his bedroom for personal use.

Police found $3,921 in a wallet in Fournier’s bedroom, according to the report. Fournier told police the money belonged to the mother of the 1-year-old child, but police seized the cash “believing the money was also part of Joshua’s drug proceeds.”

Fournier was arrested and arraigned Tuesday in District Court on a charge of possession of a Class A drug with intent to distribute, according to court documents. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

Judge Cynthia Brackett ordered Fournier held in lieu of $20,000 bond or $2,000 cash bail based on his history of defaults and the fact that the accused offense falls under the jurisdiction of Superior Court.

Fournier was convicted of possession with intent to distribute heroin on March 19, 2018, according to Barboza’s report.

Just over one year earlier, a woman alleged Fournier followed a woman to her home on Church Street, brandished what appeared to be a handgun and demanded entry to her home.

The woman managed to run away and yell for help. Officers searched Fournier and seized a BB pistol, a knife and 28 bags of suspected heroin, according to the news report.
