FALL RIVER  – David Flanagan has been appointed the new principal of Holy Name School, effective July 1. This announcement was made by Father Jay Maddock, pastor of Holy Name parish in Fall River. This appointment also received the approval of the Fall River Diocesan School Superintendent, Stephen A. Perla. Flanagan replaces Dr. Patti Wardell who has retired after having been principal for the past 14 years.

Most recently, Flanagan was the assistant principal at Bishop Hendricken High School for 14 years, where he oversaw academics, personnel, and the international student program recruiting students from China, Korea, and other parts of Asia. Previously, Flanagan taught at Mount St. Charles Academy and was an Adjunct Professor of History at Providence College's School of Continuing Education. Prior to moving into education, David practiced law for a few years, after getting his law degree from Suffolk University Law School.

Flanagan received his bachelor and master degrees in political science, education and history from Providence College. He resides in Hope Valley, R.I., where he and Barbara, his wife of 31 years have four children and are active members of the St. Rose of Lima parish in Warwick, R.I.
