Surat : Passengers travelling towards Mumbai were stranded at various railway stations in south Gujarat including Surat, Valsad and Vapi following the cancellation and termination of trains due to heavy rains and waterlogging in the Vasai Road-Nalasopara-Virar section of the Mumbai Central division on Wednesday.
Official sources said about 10 trains towards Mumbai including Firozpur Janta Express, Garibrath Express, Haridwar Express, Paschim Express, Ranakpur Express, Bandra-Delhi Sarai Rohilla, Chandigarh-Kochivalli, Vapi-Virar Memu, Valsad-Bandra passenger and Virar-Dahanu Memu were cancelled.
Some of the trains including Ahmedabad-Mumbai Express, Ahmedabad-Mumbai passenger, Dadar-Bhuj express, Bandra-Udaipur Express were short terminated at various stations including Palgarh, Vapi and Dahanu due to heavy rains and water logging at Nalasopara and Vasai Road.
A senior railway officer said, “Mumbai has received more than 20 inches of rainfall in the last 36 hours and that the forecast of heavy rains is still looming large. The sections of Virar, Nalasopera and Vasai Road are inundated in knee deep waters and that the movement of trains have been hampered. The situation is likely to continue for Thursday as well”
