30 farmers learn straw management

Ludhiana: Thirty farmers belonging to Dadehar Sahib village in Tarn Taran district learned scientific ways to manage crop residue at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Gadvasu) here on Tuesday. Gadvasu extension education director Dr H K Verma and Dr Balwinder Kumar, deputy director of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran, interacted with the farmers.
Dr Verma said crop residue can be managed by incorporation in the field (in-situ) by various machineries and wheat crop after harvesting of the paddy can be sown with Happy Seeder in standing stubbles without burning it. Farmers can save money, time and protect environment by scientifically managing the crop residues. Alternatively, paddy or basmati straw can be collected and after treating it with urea, it can be fed to the livestock as fodder.
