Islamabad, Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has been appointed
as their head coach and chief selector on a three-year contract, the Pakistan Cricket
Board announced on Wednesday.
Former fast bowler Waqar Younis has been appointed as the bowling coach for a
three-year stint, an ICC report said.
“Misbah was a unanimous choice of a five-member panel that comprised Intikhab
Alam (former captain and the longest-serving Pakistan team manager and coach),
Bazid Khan (former international cricketer and one of the most respected
commentators), Asad Ali Khan (member, Board of Governors), Wasim Khan (Chief
Executive, PCB) and Zakir Khan (Director – International Cricket, PCB) following a
robust recruitment process,” the PCB said in a media release.
While this is the first coaching stint of Misbah’s career, he has leadership experience
at all levels, including captaining Pakistan in 56 Tests.
