Dozens Of DeLoreans Packed Into Florida Facility As Hurricane Dorian Hits Shores

Dozens of DeLorean owners across Florida are storing their prized cars at the DeLorean Motor Company Florida facility as the U.S. braces for Hurricane Dorian.

The facility, which is one of four DeLorean Motor Company sites across the United States used to service, restore, and sell the iconic DMC-12, posted a couple of pictures on Facebook showing its warehouse with at least 18 vehicles sheltering from the storm. This isn’t something you see every day.

Ferocious storms like Hurricane Dorian aren’t uncommon in the Bahamas and mainland North America and sadly, often leave a trail of devastation in their wake. The hurricane has already caused widespread destruction through the Bahamas and it can only be hoped that the U.S. isn’t hit as hard.

Stacked and packed, DMC Florida is closing early today so our staff can prepare their homes for the upcoming Hurricane. We will reopen Tuesday or Wednesday once it passes. Be safe everyone.

As for the DeLoreans, well they are cars that have become so iconic in the automotive industry that they simply must be protected. In June, a film starring Alec Baldwin dubbed Framing John DeLorean hit cinema screens and video-on-demand, recounting the life of times of DeLorean from an engineer at General Motors to the founder of his own automaker that built the car famously used in the Back to the Future franchise.

The company encountered a string of production delays and financial issues and DeLorean eventually found himself ensnared in a federal investigation targeting drug traffickers. Aiming to quickly get some cash, he conspired to traffic cocaine and while he was later acquitted on the charges, the company soon collapsed.
