As the performance continued, the flames spread to the curtains surrounding the stage.
The strip club had to be evacuated and $3000 worth of damage was done by the fire, which also lead to Dangerfield's disqualification.
'I was so gutted when it happened and I did not know what to do and literally with tears in my eyes, I kept performing,' Ms can Dangerfield told The Advertiser.
'I just can't touch (fire) anymore … I feel bad that I put people's lives potentially in danger and I feel responsible for the chaos afterwards.
'I don't like watching people suffer and, when I watched people just scramble and panic, it broke my heart — I vowed, then and there, to never touch fire again.'
Ms van Dangerfield said she used fire dancing as a 'symbol of resilience' in an Instagram post after overcoming an addiction to ice.
'I survived domestic violence, drug addiction, debilitating grief and essentially hit rock bottom,' she wrote.
'It took a level of strength I never knew I had to survive, I feel that strength when I watch the flames dance.'
Ms van Dangerfield also took to social media to share the story of how she escaped an abusive relationship alongside a picture showing injuries she had suffered from that abuse.
