PANCHKULA: A man borrowed an SUV of his friend, forged its papers and sold the Rs 36-lakh vehicle for Rs 10 lakh to a Haryana police inspector posted as station house officer (SHO) at Sadar police station in Peepli, Kurukshetra, in a fraud case that was registered after the intervention of Haryana additional director general of police (ADGP) Navdeep Virk.
Ajay Kumar, a resident of Housing Board, Himshika Colony, Pinjore, said his friend Aman Kumar, a resident of Padla village in Kaithal, came to him on July 15 and asked to borrow his 2018-make Toyota Fortuner as he had to go on a trip with his friends.
When Kumar called up Aman to return his SUV after 15 days, he started ignoring his calls. Kumar later found out that his vehicle was being driven by inspector Ajay Mor. When he contacted Mor, he was shocked to know that his car was sold to the SHO for Rs 10 lakh. Aman had demanded more money and told him he would be collecting it later.
Kumar had recorded a video of his car parked outside the SHO office at the Sadar police station in Kurukshetra and recorded his phone call with the SHO in which Mor was shocked to learn Aman had given him a fake affidavit.
The video of the SUV showed that the car was sold with a temporary registration number, highlighting the accused had passed off the vehicle as new.

Kumar said, “Police initially took side of the accused and the inspector. After I met the ADGP, the case was registered. I want my SUV back.”
Police registered a case under Section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of the IPC at the Sector 5 police station against Aman Kumar.
