Ludhiana: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will organize the third edition of Nobel Prize Series-2019 on September 12 in Dr Manmohan Singh Auditorium located near Gate 1. The PAU and National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (Nabi) Mohali — in collaboration with the Government of Punjab, Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Nobel Media AB, Sweden, will organize the third edition of
Nobel Prize Series at Nabi Mohali on September 11 and PAU Ludhiana on September 12.
The event involves the participation of Nobel Laureates, including Serge Haroche, Nobel prize winner in Physics (2012) and Juleen Zierath, professor of Clinical Integrative Physiology and member of Nobel Assembly, and other scientists, who would motivate participants through their personal experiences, group discussions, and lectures. Another Nobel laureate will come on the event through Skype.
PAU VC Baldev Singh Dhillon said, “The theme of the Nobel Prize series is ‘Teaching and Learning’. Students, teachers, scientists, educationists, and decision-makers from public and private sectors are welcome. They can engage themselves in a question-and-answer series at seminars and lectures. This will promote agricultural sciences as well.”
Twentyfive different institutes and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) have been directed to facilitate the participation of rural school students of their respective districts in the Nobel Prize series. If the students face any problem in understanding the accents of the speakers, a translator will help the students understand the lecture in Hindi or Punjabi. Students who want to be a part of this series and attend the function can contact the PAU authorities.
PAU director of research Navtej Singh Bains said, “Lectures, student round tables, and exhibitions will be conducted. The event will be a source of inspiration for students, scholars, and young faculty, who will also be provided an opportunity to interact with distinguished speakers. Nearly 1,500 students, research scholars, teachers and early career faculty from Punjab and other parts of the country will participate in Mohali and Ludhiana.
A month-long exhibition, which will be open to the public at Nabi Mohali will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students, teachers, and the general public to learn about scientific achievements that have contributed to human well-being and advancement. PAU might help in providing transport facilties to those wishing to attend the exhibition.
