According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, police are looking into whether the stabbing was the result of an ongoing feud between a group of teenagers.
Acting Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith is urging anyone who may have seen something suspicious to come forward.
'We are keen to talk to anyone who was in the area at the time. Particularly anyone who may have been walking their dog or cars going past with dashcams,' he told reporters on Wednesday evening.
'It is unclear at the point what the cause of death is but it certainly looks like it is suspicious.
'There's conflicting versions how he got there and where he came from. So at this point it would be too early to say what happened.'

Police spent much of Wednesday evening on the scene attempting to piece together what had happened.
A crime scene was established and the area was cordoned off, as police spoke to residents in the area to try and get information.
On Monday, Geppert unveiled a new fashion label he hopes will help turn young people away from a life of crime.
The clothing line has been in the works for two years and is a collaboration between Geppert and his friend Forrest Gamble.
'You want to influence the younger people that are growing up around that lifestyle I grew up in,' Geppert told Nine News.
Speaking from his own experience, Geppert said he had chosen to leave the outlaw bikie gang because he didn't want to die.
'There's only two places that you end up, and that's in a grave or jail,' he said.
Geppert is a well-known identity in the bikie underworld. He regularly posts to Instagram and has more than 11,000 followers.
He made headlines in May last year after he was filmed exchanging blows with a bikie rival in front of a Gold Coast KFC.

Following the on-camera scuffle, Geppert was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for three years.
Earlier this year, Geppert was confronted by men in a Gold Coast shopping centre and refused to fight them.
The men filmed themselves trying to taunt a disinterested Geppert into brawling with them, while hurling abuse.
'I'm not going to jail over you,' Geppert said while walking away.
Then in April, Geppert took to Instagram to tell his followers that he was ditching his 'gangster life'.
Geppert says he chose to leave behind the chapter due to disagreements.
'At the time there was personal things going down in the club internally, I just didn't agree with it at the time,' he said.
Geppert insists his time with the bikie gang is in the past and he now looks to a new, different future.
'We've all done some bad things in our lives and I suppose it just follows us forever, but at the same time, you know, we all deserve a second chance.'
