MYSURU: Hangodu village in Hunsur was jolted out of slumber as the body of a newborn girl was found in a drain, covered in blood and not a scrap of cloth on her. Passersby who called police were in tears as the body was extricated and sent for examination.

The body was found early Monday morning on a deserted stretch. Police said the baby’s throat had been slit, causing her to bleed to death. “She was not even a day old,” said a police officer.
The incident came to light when some residents saw the baby’s body in the drain near the house of a resident, Ramashetty, on Kolavige road. “We have registered a murder case based on the complaint by Imtiyaj Pasha, a gram panchayat member,” said a police officer.
