Coimbatore: The Government Railway Police (GRP),
Podanur, have registered an FIR against a private college student for sexually harassing his classmate during an industrial visit to Mangaluru.
Police identified him as Thangabalan, 21, a final year BSc computer science student in a private arts and science college at Nava India. He has been booked under Section 354 (A) (sexual harassment) and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, 1998.
Thirty-six boys, six girls and two teachers from the department of computer science had left for Mangaluru in the Intercity Express train on July 29. “During the travel, when Thangabalan tried to misbehave with her, the girl warned him. After reaching Mangaluru in the night, the team boarded a private bus. Thangabalan again harassed the girl when she was dancing along with her friends inside the bus. While coming back to Coimbatore on September 3, Thangabalan consumed some drugs and sexually harassed her again. Unable to bear the torture, the girl approached the travelling ticket examiner. But Thangabalan got down from the train when it reached Shoranur in Kerala. The victim lodged a complaint with Podanur GRP on Wednesday,” a police officer said.
The FIR will be transferred to the Mangaluru police as the incident happened in Karnataka, the officer added.
