Vadodara: A DJ programme organized by the National Students Union of India (NSUI) at MS University’s Polytechnic College on Wednesday turned chaotic after a girl student complained of being molested by a student in an inebriated condition.
Brijesh Vasava was arrested by Fatehgunj police after the girl lodged a complaint against the student who was dancing in a group to the tunes of DJ in an inebriated state. Vasava is also student of the college, but has been detained for not being able to clear the examination.
Police said the girl was sitting in the parking lot of the college with her friends when the students were dancing to celebrate victory in the recently held students union elections. The girl student alleged that Vasava came up to her and uttered some offensive words as well as made nasty gestures at her. When she asked him to go away, Vasava allegedly continued to harass her, but soon some other friends took him away from the spot.
The principal informed the university’s vigilance staff, while the girl informed the police control room about the incident.
Cops reached the Polytechnic College and arrested Vasava. Separate offences of molestation and prohibition were registered against Vasava. “When we arrested him, he was in an inebriated state, so we have booked him for consuming alcohol as well,” said a police official.
A syndicate resolution had recently banned DJ programmes on the university campus, but despite the prohibition, many student outfits are seen openly flouting the university’s rules.
Questions on who issued permission to the group for organising the DJ programme at Polytechnic College are also being raised on the campus.
