TRS leader holds discussions on preparations for Cantonment polls

TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao has rued the lack of cooperation from the Central government for expediting developmental works in the Cantonment area.

Despite several representations from the Telangana Ministers and Parliament members on the skyways proposed in the Cantonment area, there was no positive response, he said at a meeting with Cantonment TRS leaders at the Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday.

KTR, who discussed the party preparations for the ensuing Cantonment Board elections, said traffic problems would have been eased by now if the Central government had cleared permissions for the skyways.

He exuded the confidence that the party would win with a huge majority given the developmental works taken up by the Telangana government irrespective of whether the elections were held with the party symbols or not. However, some obstacles in the form of regulations and permissions from the Cantonment Board had affected the development, he felt. TRS members from the Cantonment, including party MLA Sayanna and Marri Rajashekar Reddy, who contested for the Lok Sabha on TRS ticket from Malkajgiri, said development would have been at a greater pace but for the hurdles from the Cantonment Board.

Mr. Rajashekar Reddy and other members complained that the efforts to upgrade the Defence Hospital to a 100-bed one were not taking off and the Cantonment Board was refusing to hand over the hospital to the Telangana government.

Responding to this, Mr Rama Rao said he would request Health Minister Eatala Rajender to write a letter seeking the transfer of Defence hospital to the State government. He also assured that the Ramanna Cheruvu would be spared from drainage and the Municipal Administration department had already designed a plan to divert the water with ₹ 2.5 crore.

Mr. Sayanna suggested that the party write to the Defence Ministry seeking conduct of elections to Cantonment Board on party basis. Corporator Lasya Nandita, and TSTS Chairman Rakesh Chirumilla were present.
