Two cars and 10 motorcycles were gutted when a fire broke out in the basement of an apartment complex in Malkajgiri in the wee hours of Wednesday. No injuries were reported.
Police said the fire broke out after an oil lamp lit in the Ganesh pandal in the basement of Mythri Nivas apartment in Vimala Devi Nagar came in contact with the decoration curtains. “The flames spread and the parked vehicles caught fire,” said Malkajgiri inspector A Manmohan.
He said a call regarding the fire was received at 3 a.m. after the apartment watchman noticed the flames.
“Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control in an hour. We have also used fireball extinguisher to douse the flames,” he said.
The incident occurred between 2.15 a.m. and 2.30 a.m., police said.
