Sreejeev committed suicide, finds CBI probe

Thiruvananthapuram: Almost 20 months into their investigation, the CBI team probing the alleged custodial death of S R Sreejeev of Parassala has reportedly concluded that the death was a result of suicide and not custodial torture. The CBI team has filed a report in this regard before the chief judicial magistrate court.
According to sources, the CBI stated in the report that they could not find any evidence, especially scientific proof, that suggested the possibility of custodial torture. Moreover, the scientific examination conducted on the alleged suicide note recovered from the body of Sreejeev has confirmed that it was written by him.
Apparently, the findings in the report are in complete contrast to the findings of the state police complaints authority (SPCA) that had ruled that there was clear evidence of custodial torture and also ordered the state government to sanction an interim relief of Rs 10 lakh to Sreejeev’s brother Sreejith, who has been on an indefinite strike in front of the Secretariat for five years.

Speaking to TOI, Sreejith said he always knew that the investigation was never going to be in his favour. “I sensed that the investigation was not going in the right direction a few days after it commenced. That’s why I returned to my protest spot to resume the agitation,’’ Sreejith said. Earlier, Sreejith had announced that he would wind up his indefinite strike once his demand for the CBI probe was met.
Sreejith added that he would continue his fight legally and if needed, he would approach even the Supreme Court for justice.
