A 47-year-old woman from Shahibaug decided to misuse the reach of social media to get back at her niece with who she been engaged in a long-running dispute. She created a fake account in the victim's name on Instagram and posted her morphed photographs to ruin her image. She was arrested by Cyber cell on Tuesday.
According to the police, a complaint was lodged with the Cyber Cell on Monday by the 32-year-old victim who is a resident of Dudheshwar. As per the complaint, she received the morphed nude pictures from an unknown number a few months ago. She blocked the number and stayed mum about the incident.
However, her efforts to keep the incident a secret failed after her brother-in-law got an Instagram request from a fake account of the victim which contained her morphed pictures. Following this, a complaint was lodged.
During the investigation, the technical team traced down the mobile number through which the fake account was created. It was revealed that the number belonged to a woman named Yashminbanu Shaikh, a resident of Shahibaug.
On Tuesday the accused was arrested from her home. "Interrogation revealed that the accused is the victim's aunt. To settle scores following a long-running household-related dispute with her niece, she took the step," said VB Barad, Inspector of Cyber Cell.
The Cyber Cell officials on Tuesday arrested a man for creating a fake Facebook account of his ex-fiancée to exact revenge. The accused, identified as Ankit Vekriya, is a resident of Junagadh. As per a complaint lodged on Monday by the victim, she got engaged to Vekriya in 2018. The engagement was called off due to personal reasons. Later, the victim got married to another person. To exact revenge, the accused created a fake account on Facebook and posted photos of the victim's marriage and engagement to ruin her image.
In another incident, a man uploaded lewd pictures of his girlfriend on the social media accounts of her parents after she ended their relationship following an altercation.
