Police deployed , college closed for two days

Ludhiana : A day after clash between two groups of students over mess menu at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (GNDEC) , Gill Road the authorities have suspended classes for two days. The classes will now resume from Thursday.
College authorities have ensured that there was heavy police deployment outside the premises to prevent any further clashes. The police and college authorities have claimed that the matter has been resolved amicably. No student has registered any police complaint.
One of the student Akash said , “ The matter has been resolved and we would be part of mess committee.”
Harjap Singh, a third year B Tech student said , “The differences erupted between two groups earlier on August 29. One group comprised of local students and the other group was students from Bihar. The students from Bihar alleged that the mess operator has been serving dal makhni on daily basis, whereas they were demanding to add more variety in the menu, but the local students started opposing it.”
Tension erupted again as local students alleged that a poster of leader, was allegedly blackened. The local students alleged that students from Bihar were instrumental for damaging the poster. As the college reopened on Monday after the weekend, a group of 50-60 local students allegedly opened attack on Bihar students, in which three students Rahul, Anshu and Ujjwal suffered injuries. Later, the police were called to the premises.
Students added that that this was not the first time that the students clashed against each other. Tension had been brewing since February last year when students from Bihar and other states had organized pooja in the campus. Some of students have passed derogatory remarks against the rituals. Later, the principal of the college had to intervene.

Warning to be given to 6 students
Principal of the college, Sehijpal Singh said that students had problems with the menu which the authorities were looking into. He said that most of the students were from outside the state. “We have provided security and it was a minor scuffle,” said Sehijpal Singh.
