CHENNAI: A 24-year-old woman who forgot her handbag, that contained 21 sovereigns of gold worth 5lakh and 25,000 cash, in an autorickshaw was lucky enough to get the vakuables back within 5 hours, thanks to city police.
Pandia Mythili from Rajapalayam had come to her relative's house in Mylapore, said police.
Around 11.30am, Pandia Mythili went to Marina beach with family members and then hired an autorickshaw from Anna Square to go to the Lighthouse.
After the auto dropped them at Lighthouse and left, Pandia Mythili realised that she forgot her handbag containing valuables and cash in the vehicle. Based on her complaint, the Marina police registered a case and combed the CCTV footage on Kamarajar Salai to found the registration number of the autorickshaw.
Since Pandia Mythili had also left her mobile phone in the bag, it became easy for the police to locate the autorickshaw and the bag was also found in the backside of the autorickshaw.

Since the valuables were intact in the bag, it was handed over to Pandia Mythili after investigation.
The autodriver failed to notice the bag that was abandoned at the back of the vehicle, police said.
