One set ablaze, windshields of seven others smashed by unidentified persons

Unidentified miscreants vandalised several vehicles of a private school near Vizhinjam during the early hours of Tuesday. The Thiruvananthapuram Rural police have instituted a probe into the incident.

The incident occurred at the Mount Carmel Residential School in Kanjiramkulam where a bus was set ablaze and the windshields of seven others were smashed by unidentified persons. With the miscreants apparently managing to evade being caught by CCTV cameras installed on the campus, the police suspect the crime to have been orchestrated by those who were familiar with the security arrangements there.

Besides, the perpetrators also managed to remain undetected despite the school compounds being guarded by a security team. The parking positions of the vehicles were also seemingly known to them. While the charred air-conditioned bus was parked near a day-care facility on the campus, the other vandalised vehicles were parked elsewhere. It is also suspected that the miscreants made a failed bid at setting a school building ablaze, sources said.

‘No dispute’

The school authorities maintained that there have neither been any recent unrest among the employees or any contentious decisions taken by the institution.

District Police Chief (Thiruvananthapuram Rural) P.K. Madhu, who inspected the premises, said that a comprehensive probe had been instituted and that attempts were under way to ascertain the circumstances that led to the attack.
