Shooting sensations Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary won the mixed team gold in 10m air pistol in a dramatic final, edging past compatriots Yashaswini Singh Deswal and Abhishek Verma on the final day of the ISSF World Cup (rifle and pistol) in Rio on Monday night.
It was a shoot-off between Manu-Saurabh pair and Yashaswini-Abhishek duo for the gold medal and the former won 17-15.
Also on the day, India’s Apurvi Chandela and Deepak Kumar won gold in the 10m air rifle mixed team, defeating Chinese duo of Qian Yang and Haonan Yu 16-6. Bronze went to another Indian pair of Anjum Moudgil and Divyansh Singh Panwar.
On Monday alone, India won four medals to finish with a rich haul of 9 including five gold, two silver and as many bronze.
India have dominated this year’s four World Cups. Before Rio, India finished second with three medals (all gold) in New Delhi in February, topped the table with 3 gold and 1 silver in Beijing in April, with 5 gold and 1 silver in Munich in May besides being No. 1 in the junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany, with as many as 10 gold, 9 silver and 5 bronze medals.
