Kalyan: Woman’s body found with stabs, husband on run

KALYAN: A woman was found murdered in her Kalyan residence on Monday. The body of Rekha Kumar (22) was found with the throat slashed while her hands and legs were trussed up. The police said that her husband, Vikram (26), who has been missing, is the key suspect while a second person’s involvement cannot be ruled out. A police officer said they suspect that an extramarital affair seems to be the motive for the crime.
The police had rushed to the couple home in Umbarde village on Monday afternoon after a neighbour, who discovered the body, alerted them.
An officer from Khadakpada police station, where a murder case has been registered, said that the woman’s hands and legs had been tied up before her throat was slashed. “Vikram, a construction labourer, the key suspect, is on the run,” said an officer. Sources in the police said their probe shows that he first fled to Surat, returned to the city.
Assistant police inspector D V Aavare said it appears that Vikram suspected his wife of cheating on him. “But we cannot jump to any conclusion just yet... This is what our intiial probe indicates.”
