Fire breaks out at Vasco bldg, Rs 10 lakh worth property saved

Vasco: A fire broke out on the ground floor of a residential building at Baina on Wednesday afternoon.
Officials of the fire department suspect that some old furniture that was stored in a corner on the ground floor caught fire owing to bursting of crackers, after which the blaze spread to an electricity meter box nearby.
Vasco station fire officer Dilip Bicholkar said the residents of the building panicked and immediately rushed down after thick smoke spread around the structure. However, a women became unconscious due to suffocation and was taken to hospital.

Goods worth Rs 20,000 was lost in the incident, while property worth Rs 10 lakh was saved, officials said.
Fire tenders had difficulty reaching the spot as access was blocked due to a pandal that was set up for celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi. However, before fire personnel could reach the site, residents had begun containing the blaze.
