BHUBANESWAR: BK Sharma, director general of police, on Wednesday reviewed coastal security in
Odisha. He discussed with Superintendents of Police (SPs) of seven coastal districts-Berhampur,
Ganjam, Puri,
Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Balasore- about the security issues through videoconferencing.
The meeting was important because the cabinet secretary will review on ‘National Committee on Strengthening Maritime and Coastal Security Threat from the Sea’ through videoconferencing on Thursday.
The state has a total of 18 marine police stations under seven coastal districts to look after coastal security issues and law and order issues of the localities. Sharma also reviewed the performance of these police stations.
After DGP’s review, some major decisions have been taken in the meeting. Senior officers like IG or DIG and SPs will visit the marine police stations at least once every month to ensure their proper functioning. “SPs will inspect the PSs on a regular basis and submit inspection note to state police headquarters,” said a release issued by the police headquarters on Wednesday.
The DGP also asked inspectors-in-charge of marine PS to make sea patrolling in their area and pay special attention to the functioning to marine PSs in their districts by strengthening manpower and other things.
Besides posting of adequate manpower in marine PSs, SPs will submit detailed proposal to IGP (modernization) relating to constriction of office building, staff quarters and other infrastructural development.
