5 held for conspiracy to rob motorists

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district police have arrested five people who were conspiring to rob motorists at Manchi in Bantwal taulk, in the early hours of Wednesday.
The arrested are, Umar Farooq, 26; Mohammed Abubakkar, 21 from Goltamajalu; Abdul Khader, 40, a residents of Manchi; Rameez, 22, a resident of Goltamajalu and Khalil, 24, a resident of Baltila. Police acting on a tip-off, arrested them near Manchi around 1.30am, and one of them, identified as Akbar from Suribail, has fled from the spot. They have seized two motorbikes, a weapon, ganja and other items from them. According to police, they were planning to rob truck drivers as well as other vehicles.
A case has been registered at the Bantwal Rural police station in this regard.
