district police have
arrested five
people who were
conspiring to
rob motorists at
Manchi in
Bantwal taulk, in the early hours of Wednesday.
The arrested are, Umar Farooq, 26; Mohammed Abubakkar, 21 from Goltamajalu; Abdul Khader, 40, a residents of Manchi; Rameez, 22, a resident of Goltamajalu and Khalil, 24, a resident of Baltila. Police acting on a tip-off, arrested them near Manchi around 1.30am, and one of them, identified as Akbar from Suribail, has fled from the spot. They have seized two motorbikes, a weapon, ganja and other items from them. According to police, they were planning to rob truck drivers as well as other vehicles.
A case has been registered at the Bantwal Rural police station in this regard.
