Andhra University Vice-Chancellor P.V.G.D Prasad Reddy on Tuesday issued an order to open the Centre for Defence Studies on the campus. He said that the centre would function from the first floor of the Delta Studies Institute at Sivajipalem.
S. Pallam Setty, a Professor of the Department of Computer Science & Systems Engineering (CSE) of the AU College of Engineering has been appointed as the founder director of the centre.
MoU signed
Though President of India, Ramnath Kovind declared the Centre for Defence Studies open on December 7, 2017 and it was yet to start functioning at Andhra University.
“Eight MoUs signed with Indian Air Force, six with Indian Navy, four with Indian Coast Guard, several agreements with the Ministry of Defence and 10 research projects in engineering areas of defence sector are in process. The Centre for Defence Studies will facilitates joint education and research programmes under one umbrella,” The V-C said.
Representatives of defence forces (Army, Navy and Air Force), Principal of AU College of Engineering (A), Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Ujjwal Kumar, Academic Advisor, Defence Joint Education & Research Programme, AU and Prof. Pallamsetty were present on the occasion.
