The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court dismissed a petition that sought a direction to exclude non-woven polypropylene bags from the list of 14 plastic items banned. Petitioner N. R. Nagarajan of Madurai said the bags were porous, which meant that water and air could pass through them, and degradable in nature. They did not come under the one-time use category and could be reused for at least six months. They were reusable and could be recycled, he said and sought the exclusion of the product from the list of one-time-use plastics.
A Division Bench of Justices T.S. Sivagnanam and R. Tharani dismissed the petition as no reasonable ground was made in it.
