(File)A day after a team of UP Police returned from Haridwar in Uttarakhand “failing to question” Swami Chinmayanand in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a 23-year-old law student, the former Union minister and BJP leader appeared before the mediapersons in Shahjahanpur on Wednesday and said that he has full faith in the judiciary.
Stating that the ongoing SIT investigation in the case will “bring out the truth”, the 73-year-old former BJP MP alleged that “some people” have conspired against him as they do not want to see his college make progress.
Notably, the woman is a student of the law college of which Chinmayanand is the chairman of the management committee.
“The matter is still being heard in the Supreme Court. I am happy and satisfied with the directives given by the Supreme Court and I am sure that the truth will come out in the SIT investigation. People will answer to the attempts made to malign my image. However, what is making me sad is that even when I tried to give LLM degree, some people… tried to affect this good work by causing ruckus,” Chinmayanand said at the press meet where cameras were not allowed to record.
“Today, when we are moving towards (making the college) a university, and I even spoke with the Finance Minister and decided to give the Chief Minister (Yogi Adityanath) a proposal to make the college a university… even the date was decided… some people raised this issue to hinder that plan. I do not understand who are these people who are doing this disgusting work of causing barriers in the development and education of the district. This is regretful,” he added.
The UP government has set up an SIT, headed by an IG-rank officer, on the directives of the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, DIG Bareilly (Range) Rajesh Pandey said that the SIT will investigate the matter “since the matter is with it”. “The SIT has already asked the officials to provide related documents of the case,” Pandey said and added that the statement of the law student will also be recorded.
The FIR against Chinmayanand was registered after the woman posted a video on Facebook alleging threat to her life by an “influential sant-politician who has destroyed the lives of several girls”.
