Consult RWAs before marking vending zones: Noida residents

Some RWAs claimed the vending zones had been identified in a haphazard manner
NOIDA: The Noida Authority’s decision to set up vending zones in 12 places in the city has been welcomed by residents, but local RWAs have pointed out that they should have been consulted before the hubs were identified.
Some RWAs claimed the vending zones had been identified in a haphazard manner. Others pointed out that if the zones are too close to the existing markets, they would affect the business of the latter.
But most residents welcomed the decision to set up vending zones, saying removing illegal stalls will not only free roads for smooth traffic, but also improve security in the area.
“We welcome the decision to allocate zones as it would not only help the vendors but also the residents who depend on these stalls for their daily needs. But it would have been much better had the Authority consulted the RWAs of the respective sectors before allocating the zones. The local RWAs are best equipped to provide details about the area,” said Yogendra Sharma, president of the Federation of Noida Residents’ Welfare Associations (FONRWA).
KK Jain, the RWA president of Sector 34, tweeted to the Authority CEO that the vending zones had been identified in a haphazard manner and without consulting the local RWAs.
“We welcome the move, but it would have been better had they consulted the respective RWAs. The vending zones need to be identified again, this time after consulting the local RWAs,” said Jain.
Residents said that the Noida Authority should have also taken care to ensure vending zones are not set up in areas that already have local markets.

“There are several shops and three markets in Sector 34. So, a vending zone in this sector is not required. Also, the weekly Friday market in the sector already creates enough issues of encroachment, parking and sanitation, which need to be controlled,” said MC Bhardwaj, a resident.
Sudhir Sood, RWA general secretary in Sector 44, suggested in case there were too many vendors, timings could be fixed for them to open shops.
