FALL RIVER -- A cruiser is bound for the body shop after a 33-year-old man allegedly damaged it with weight-lifting equipment and rocks during a half-hour stalemate with police Tuesday morning on Hanson Street, according to police.

Officers encountered 33-year-old city man Neil Camara standing on a third-floor balcony.
Robinson said Camara told officers he had a firearm and threw dumbbells and rocks down at hit a Fall River police cruiser, damaging its front end and windshield.
“He threw multiple dumbbells and large rocks causing severe damage,” he said.
Sgt. James Thorpe and Officer Nicholas Custadio talked to Camara through a window, and convinced him to exit the building after negotiations that lasted around 30 minutes, according to Robinson.
“They convinced him to come downstairs and he was taken into custody,” he said.
Camara was unarmed at the time of his arrest, according to Robinson, and no weapons were recovered from the scene.
“He came out unarmed,” Robinson said.
The spokesman said Camara had been awake for over 24 hours at the time of his arrest. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident, according to Robinson.
Repairs to the police cruiser were estimated at about $4,000. The spokesman said Camara was arrested on charges including vandalism, though additional charges were expected to be filed on Tuesday.
