Engineers called to inspect building at risk of collapse after demolition mishap

Motorists are advised to avoid a busy Northern Beaches road after a demolition mishap left a building at risk of collapse in Balgowlah on Tuesday afternoon.

Engineers have been asked to inspect a building near the intersection of Sydney Road and Woodlands Street North after an excavator knocked through a wall and struck an adjoining commercial property, a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said.

The adjoining building suffered structural damage and one person was evacuated.

Sydney Road is closed in both directions between Woodland Street and Condamine Street. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Bus routes 132, 143, 144, 145, 151, 178, 180,188, E50, E70 and E75 are being diverted away from the scene, with reported delays of up to 25 minutes.

More to come.
