Tokyo Gas, Kyushu Elec form JV to consider building gas-fired power plant TOKYO: * Japan's Tokyo Gas and Kyushu Electric Power have formed a company to consider building a gas-fired power station at Sodegaura in Chiba, near Tokyo, they said on Monday.

* The move comes after the two companies and Idemitsu Kosan Co Ltd scrapped a plan in January to build a 2 gigawatt (GW) coal-fired power station at the same site, saying it was not economically feasible. The site is owned by Idemitsu.

* The new company, owned 50% each by Tokyo Gas and Kyushu Electric, plans to make a final investment decision on the power station between 2020 and 2024, with an aim to start operation in later half of 2020s, a spokesman of Tokyo Gas said.

* The plant with a generation capacity of up to 2 GW will use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as feedstock
