Four, including 2 kids, drown in river

Wardha: Two children and two women drowned in Vana river during Gauri immersion near the railway bridge at Kavad Ghat in Hinganghat tehsil on Monday.
According to information, Riya Bhagat (35), her friend Dipali Bhate (30), both residents of Shastri ward, and Riya’s son Abhay (14) and daughter Anjana (16) were at the immersion spot at around 1pm. Bhagat was performing rituals when she realized that Abhay was drowning and Anjana was trying to save him.
Riya and Dipali tried to rescue the kids but all four of them drowned as there was no one else around to help them, said sources.
A police constable Ramdas Chakole spotted one of the bodies floating at around 50ft from the spot. He recovered the body which turned out to be of Riya. The body was shifted to district sub-hospital.
District administration has dispatched a team of National Disaster Response Force and other squads to trace the other three bodies which hadn’t been recovered till filing of this report.
