MADURAI: A 29-year-old
man, who tried to broker peace between two men, was stabbed to death here on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as K Karuppaiah alias Sangaiah, 29, of Chinna Chokkikulam.
K Karthikeyan, 46, who was one of the two men involved in the quarrel, suffered injuries and was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital.
The accused has been identified as K Selvakarthick, 23, of Anna Nagar in Chokkikulam. He was jobless and was an alcoholic.
Karthikeyan and Selvakarthick’s father, Kannan, are friends. They were chatting at Kannan’s house on Monday night. When Selvakarthick reached there, his father scolded him for not going for job. Selvakarthick thought his father, who had not reprimanded him before, scolded him because of Karthikeyan’s instigation.
He picked up a quarrel with Karthikeyan. As the dispute turned murkier, Selvakarthick brought a knife and attacked Karthikeyan.
Karupaiah, who was watching this, tried to broker peace between them. Selvakarthick turned against Karupaiah and attacked him with a knife. Selvakarthick ran away after committing the
murder.
The Tallakulam
police registered a case. The accused surrendered before a judicial magistrate in Nilakottai in Dindigul district on Tuesday.
