PANCHKULA: Special CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh on Monday sentenced six people to three-year jail term in a 15-year-old fraud case. The convicts are four realtors and two State Bank of India (
SBI) officials.

Himachal Pradesh former additional director of police (ADGP) Bhupinder Singh Thind, a 1974 batch IPS officer, who was also an accused in the case. He had died during the trial. In 2004, the CBI had registered two separate cases. In October 2006, the CBI had arrested Thind and Saini in connection with obtaining loans of Rs 3.45 crore from 15 banks by using the same piece of land as collateral.
The agency had alleged Thind, who was posted as additional DGP (CID and law and order) in Himachal Pradesh Police, had entered into a criminal conspiracy with Saini and allegedly defrauded 15 banks by using the same property for obtaining loans.
The CBI had alleged the loans had been provided on the basis of fake and forged documents, without conducting any pre- and post-sanction surveys.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 each on the convicts. Besides, the court also fined Shalimar Land Projects Limited Rs 20,000 in the two cases.
