NEW DELHI: It was a sultry day in the city on Monday, but rain will return soon, the local Met office said. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 36.6 degrees Celsius - two notches above normal - and a low of 27.1 degrees Celsius - one point above normal. Only Aya Nagar recorded 0.3mm rainfall till 5.30pm.

According to a senior scientist at India Meteorological Department, rain will return to the capital by Wednesday. On Tuesday, the maximum and minimum temperatures will hover around 35 and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively. A generally cloudy sky is expected along with light rain or thundershowers, the Met forecast says.
Delhi's air quality, meanwhile, was classified as 'satisfactory' on Monday, with an overall AQI of 96. SAFAR, a forecasting agency under the Union ministry, said only scattered rainfall at isolated places in Delhi is expected. "A slight dip in air quality is predicted but it will remain in the same 'satisfactory' range for the next two days," said a SAFAR report on Monday.
