His family is desperately searching for answers as they don't know how or why he ended up in the ditch, next to the scooter and his helmet, Nine News reported.
The family say the keys to the scooter were found in the 47-year-old's pocket, but there was no damage to the scooter.
Mr Lance is now in a critical condition at Royal Perth Hospital.
After being treated in Bali, he was flown to Perth for treatment on Sunday before waking up from a coma on Tuesday.
His family took to social media appealing for public assistance and believe he may have been bashed.
The family said Mr Lance travels to Bali often and are desperate for answers to what happened to him.
