Ahead of the municipal elections, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has decided to improve its contact with the electorate in different forms, including through the social media, by appointing a social media coordinator for every polling station.
It has also been decided that party’s legislators, members of Parliament and chairpersons of various corporations, in whose purview there are no municipal elections, would focus on the party activities in other urban local bodies (ULBs). The decisions were taken by party working president K.T. Rama Rao here on Tuesday at a meeting held to review the party’s preparedness for the municipal elections in the combined Rangareddy and Hyderabad districts.
Mr. Rama Rao stated that party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao would announce the party in-charges for municipal elections in the State in a couple of days. He asked the Assembly constituency in-charges of the party to complete forming the basthi and division committees by September 6.
Huge success
Stating that party’s membership drive in the combined Rangareddy and Hyderabad districts was a huge success, Mr. Rama Rao said the appointment of polling station wise social media coordinators too should be completed at the earliest so that party could take up their training. He suggested the party legislators to take the lead in the appointment of committee by coordinating with local corporators and senior leaders.
He asked the constituency in-charges of the party to handover the polling station wise social media coordinators’ lists to the party headquarters separately. He stated that it was being planned to create improved awareness among party ranks on the welfare and development schemes being implemented by the government and to take the information to the grass-roots level through the social media coordinators.
Effective platform
“Every legislator and party leader must take into cognisance the increasing impact of the social media from election to election. Apart from explaining the people about the government programmes directly, social media was another effective platform to take the government schemes into people better,” Mr. Rama Rao said at the meeting. He also explained about the party’s action plan for the municipal elections to leaders.
Exuding confidence that party would win all ULBs in combined Rangareddy and Hyderabad area, the TRS working president noted that Medchal constituency has 10 ULBs, the highest number compared to any Assembly segment in the State. He told the party leaders to handover the responsibility of municipalities to other senior leaders wherever a constituency has more than one ULB.
