Allahabad: After a gap of 23 years, the Allahabad University is set to hold its convocation on September 5. A total of 63 meritorious students would be awarded 119 medals.
On the occasion, chancellor medals would be awarded to six students while 113 endowment medals would be awarded to 57 meritorious students.
Besides, PhD degrees would be given to 281 research scholars of AU (of the session 2016-18), informed Prof Ramendra Kumar Singh, department of Chemistry, who is the head of the committee constituted to look after the convocation arrangements.
Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi would be the chief guest and honorary degrees would be presented to former governor of West Bengal Keshari Nath Tripathi and UP DGP OP Singh, said Singh.
Meritorious students of as many as 15 departments would not get university medals during the convocation being organized after a long gap 23 long years, as the last time AU held a convocation was in 1996.
Prof Singh said arrangements have been made for live telecast of the convocation in the common halls of all major hostels as the Senate Hall, where the convocation will be held, has limited seating capacity of only 775 people and a large number of AU students would not be able to attend the function. A YouTube link of the event would be made available on the university’s official website.
