Nagpur: The elephant god has finally arrived with much celebrations, excitement and positivity. But what makes it extra special and emotional for
Sanjay Ambolikar is his massive, handmade 5.5ft Ganesh idol, installed in his colony, the Om Satya Exotica Residential Society. It marks his comeback from a life threatening long-term illness. “It’s the blessing of God Ganesh that I was able to sculpt it and make it a success,” said Ambolikar.
The 43-year-old was partially immobilized with benign nerve sheath tumour, and operated upon in 2018, changing life as they knew it for Sanjay and his family members. The unexpected illness was absolutely shattering for the fitness freak, and came as a shock to them. Ambolikar had been diagnosed with tumour around July 2018 and underwent an operation. This led to disability in his left leg, and suddenly everything around him changed.
“I was always fond of sculpting. I used to make clay idols every year for my own house. Sadly, after the diagnosis of the illness, I was not able to sculpt it last year. I felt very sad about it and promised myself, if I am able to make it though the tough times by next year, I will make an idol for my society. Bappa has helped me complete that wish,” said Ambolikar.
A bachelor of fine arts and a draftsman-designer, sculpting has always been a passion for Ambolikar. You can see it in the beautifully made Ganesha idol, crafted with immense hard work and precision. Each stroke defines his creativity and faith in the obstacle-remover god, who helped him come out of the tough situation.
After hard work of one month, Ambolikar could complete his dream of making the Ganpati idol. “I used to work for two to three hours every day after office. I am very glad that I was able to see my dream turn into reality, and the residents of society have appreciated my gesture by installing the idol in the society.”
He believes nothing can be achieved without the blessings of the Lord, and support from loved ones. Sanjay’s wife Chaitali and his mother have stood with him throughout the process.
“I am extremely proud of my husband. Last year was very depressing for us, we are still recovering from it. But the amount of effort Sanjay has put in and his hard work makes me a very happy and proud wife,” said Chaitali Ambolikar.
