LUCKNOW: Your electricity bill is set to go up by around 12% with the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) giving its nod to the new electricity tariff order on Tuesday. The new tariff will come into application seven days after the UPPCL gets it notified and published in daily newspapers.
According to the commission, the tariff for the urban domestic consumers has been increased in various slabs. Consumption between 0-150 units has been increased from Rs 4.90 per unit to Rs 5.50 per unit, while between 151 and 300 unit tariff has been raised from Rs 5.40 to Rs 6.00 per unit.
Likewise, consuming electricity between 301 and 500 will require you to pay Rs 6.50 per unit instead of Rs 6.20 which was the case earlier. Power tariff for consumption of electricity above 500 units has been increased from Rs 6.50 to Rs 7.00 per unit. The commission also raised the monthly fixed charge from Rs 100 per kilowatt/moth to Rs 110. The commission, however, did away with the month surcharge of 4.28 percent which was earlier applied on electricity bills.
The hike in power tariff comes after a gap of almost two years. The tariff hike was shelved in 2018 in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections.

Power tariff has also been increased for the rural areas by around 25% for the unmetered category while for the metered category a hike of 10 percent has been made effective. The unmetered consumers will now have to pay at the rate of Rs 500 per kilowatt/month instead of Rs 400. Hike has been proposed for the metered consumers under various slabs. Up to 100 units, a rural consumer will have to pay Rs 3.35 instead of the current Rs 3.00. Power tariff for electricity consumption between 100 and 150 units has been raised from Rs Rs 3.50 to RS 3.85 per unit. Likewise, tariff for electricity consumption between Rs 151-300 has been increased from Rs 4.50 per unit to 5.00 per unit. Consumption between 301 and 500 would invite power tariff of Rs 5.50 instead of Rs 5.00 per unit. Beyond 500 units, tariff would be increased from Rs 5.50 to Rs 6.00 per unit.
Tariff for industries too has been increased from Rs 6.65 units per unit to Rs 7.10. At the same time the demand charge charged on industrial set up has been increased from Rs 250 per kilo volt ampere (KVA) to 300 KVA.
