Students donate blood to mark Barfiwala’s birth anniversary

All India Institute of Local-Self Government organized a blood donation camp too at Sarvoday Ashram
Nagpur: More than 23 students donated blood at a camp organized by the Nagpur divisional office of All India Institute of Local-Self Government (AIILSG) at Sarvoday Ashram recently.
The event began with the lighting of a traditional lamp by Dilip Diwe, chairman of education consultative committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Rajendra Dubey, centre officer of Fire Brigade, Dr Ashok Patki, secretary of Dr Hedgewar Blood Bank, Sangeeta Girhe, chairman of women and child welfare committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Jayant Pathak, regional director of All India Institute of Local Self-Government.
In his address, Dr Patki told students that prevalence of ammonia in India is high in which patients have to change blood every month. In order to ensure availability of blood, such camps prove helpful to such patients, he added.
Girhe shared her experiences and the contribution of CD Barfiwala who was at the helm of affairs for well over 36 years. Jayant Pathak gave information about the programme. He said the journey started in 1926 and now the institute has more than 45 centres across the states.
The programme was organized with the objective of creating awareness about the importance, recognition and nature of local self-government bodies. Local Self-government Day is celebrated in memory of Barfiwala on his anniversary on August 31 every year.
The institute has benefited from many distinguished persons. Barfiwala was a versatile person who held high positions. He was a member of the legislative council and head of various committees constituted by the government. He joined the institute in 1930 and led it to greater heights.

Students of the institute were awarded for their achievements in their respected courses. Cultural programmes were organized by students of the institute that enthralled the audience.
